Practice to Teach

Transferring knowledge is our job as teachers in the future, but the question is how to transfer our knowledge to our student. We know the way to transfer our knowledge is by teaching. Friends, tomorrow we will have school experiences, can you imagine that? We must try to teach them not only practice in our class but practice to the real situation in school or in class.
In the last meeting of PETA class we practiced to teach with our group. Sometime we were joking when we practices student, because we did that to our friends. I remember Bu Mima said how if the student in class were not active, what could we do? Ohh… How it could be? We as students have no idea to make the situation in our class not conducive or not cooperative with our students. Whereas it can be a lesson for us to face that situation.
We did the teaching simulation in group, after we make a lesson plan I would say thanks to my group members Das, Didy, and Asih I’m happy to work together with you. We prepared to teach the morning and we had a video it was very nice. In the other hand we have not been perfect yet we still learn how to teach well and to be effective teachers. I think the other groups were equally good. There was sometimes that we could learn from, right?
I think when we were doing teaching simulation, it is very useful for preparing our school experiences because we got suggestion from Bu Mima, Bu… pray for us so that we can do it well when we do it in school experiences. To be honest I’m nervous to face school experiences, why?? Because this is the time for us to apply what we have learned, maybe some of us had taught before. To teach a whole student in class is the first time for me, but for now we are not alone to teach we have team teaching. So, we must cooperative and work together. I hope we can do the best, and I believe we can do itJ.

My Third Reflection

What we have learned in third meeting PETA class? It is the question that I have before I write my reflection. In every subject our knowledge definitely will be increased. In this session we learned about model of instruction. Before that we are triggered to remember the previous lesson about design instruction.
After we discuss about fun teachers we gathered with our groups. My lecturer gives us paper about the model of instructions they are Direct Instruction, Lecture-Discussion, Guided Discovery, and Group Instruction. I got the material about Lecture-Discussion Model, my paper the thickest. After all finished the reading, we did jigsaw and discuss with the expert group. I think we can see the example of Lecture-Discussion from Mrs. Mima. In the beginning she always asked questions to make a discussion, the questions made us retrieve information from long-term memory because by using it we can integrate the new information. Phases of the Lecture-Discussion Model are introduction, presentation, comprehension monitoring, integration, and the last review and closure.  In comprehension monitoring we can check and assess students understanding of the material. Yes, when Mrs. Mima created the discussion atmosphere about Model of Instructions she said she could see how far our understanding is, and if we haven’t understand about the differences between one and another she gave opportunity to other who understand more about the subject to explain it. When we teach, we can mix Model of Instruction not only use lecture-discussions or group instruction.
In our module it is said that Direct Instruction and Lecture-Discussion is traditional classroom, do you agree with that? At the time I didn’t agree with that. Why? Because Lecture-Discussion can involve the students to be active in answering the question which make students construct their knowledge. I think traditional classroom and traditional teaching is same but maybe I’m wrong. So, How about you? Do you think traditional classroom and traditional teaching is the same? Let’s discuss.

Jadi nama depan saya yaitu Nurvika mempunyai makna cahaya anak pertama.

My Reflection in Second Meet

Like water which flowing calmly by the course of the river. That was my situation when I learned in PETA class. This writing will discuss about my reflection about study activity in class by determining part that was effective and the other part which was not effective during the class. I think lesson that brought by Bu Mima today ran effectively. We can see that from the class today which used lesson plan as its framework and from the activities that was held in classroom.
As we know that one of the points about good teaching is that before the class starts, we must make a lesson plan. Lesson plan which is already created by Bu Mima made the learning process felt like flowing smoothly and the material that was explained wasn’t felt stiff.  Although we have already made a good lesson plan but if we could not convey it attractively, of course the learning process will be boring. Like Bu Mima said that we couldn’t fully comply the scenario in lesson plan, but at least the desired indicators could be achieved. The Lesson plan helps leading us to what we should deliver to students.
I felt that the activity was very effective to make students understand about the material. The given instruction was varies, the first activity was watching a video followed by discussion groups to criticize the video. Through the group discussion, we could argue about the sample that we saw about the effective and ineffective teachers. During the discussion, Bu Mima kept monitoring the course of discussions within the group. So she could assess the students’ participation in group discussions. Although the explanation about Bloom taxonomy was not discussed deeply but the discussion about making a lesson plan made me remember the material about Bloom taxonomy. Besides watching video and group discussion, there was a time when Bu Mima lecturing us. During the lecturing, the class was actively engaged because Bu Mima involved the students to ask and she lectured the students in an interesting way. She explained using examples and her own experiences about the teacher who makes a lesson plan.
It can be concluded that for me meeting in PETA class was effective, in terms of preparation, the way of delivering the materials, the activities, and the assessment about classroom discussions and students participation in classroom.
